I suspect that update method had to be changed by Sonos to cope with new security feature in MacOs at some point. Sonos S2 on MacBook Pro. I have Sonos S1 on my iMac. Recently sold my PLAY5 gen 1, so I thought I would upgrade my system to S2 all others as S2 compatible. On phones, Ipad, and other devices all ok; but on the MacBook Pro the app store does not list the Sonos S2 App? And on the Sonos website it states it is only available through the app ?? ? ?.
